Public Hospital Appointment: Concord Repatriation General Hospital

Dr Chang is an accredited orthopaedic surgeon in Concord Repatriation General Hospital ( CRG, or Concord ) with admitting rights. Concord is part of a network of hospitals and healthcare services within Sydney Local Health District. It services the local communities of Concord, Strathfield, Burwood and beyond.

Parking: Pay parking is available opposite the Hospital grounds in the Hospital Road carpark for an hourly fee. There is no general parking within the hospital grounds.

Public Hospital Admission

Before your admission for surgery, your doctor or GP will usually gives you a referral to see a orthopaedic specialist, and then you will need to make an appointment with Dr Alice Chang. Dr Chang will assess you and may send you for further tests before deciding what kind of treatment you require and whether you need to go into hospital for treatment or surgery.

Our office will send the Recommendation For Admission Form (RFA) to CRG admissions department within one week.There is a waitlist for surgeries in the public hospitals and patients are prioritised according to the clinical urgency and the date the RFA is received by Admissions. This is NOT managed by Dr Chang nor by her office. Please direct all queries to Concord Hospital Admissions (02)9767-6855.

There are three categories of clinical urgency as outlined below:

Category Type Waiting Period
Category 1 (Urgent – Heart valve replacement, amputation of limb) Admission within 30 days, desirable for a condition that has the potential to deteriorate quickly and become an emergency
Category 2 (Semi-Urgent – Colposcopy, Amputation of digit) Admissions within 90 days, desirable for a condition not likely to deteriorate quickly
Category 3 (Non-urgent –Septoplasty) Admission within 365 days, acceptable for a condition unlikely to deteriorate quickly

In private hospitals, you will generally not have to wait as long for treatment. Before your admission for surgery, your doctor or GP will usually gives you a referral to see a orthopaedic specialist, and then you will need to make an appointment with Dr Alice Chang. Dr Chang will assess you and may send you for further tests before deciding what kind of treatment you require and whether you need to go into hospital for treatment or surgery. You will be sent instructions on how to complete your Recommendation for Admission (RFA). Please fill out the RFA and return it to the private hospital you will be admitted to.
